As I write this I am reminded that summer solstice is less than 48 hours away. Solstice holds important meaning for many cultures. There are so many honourable ways to celebrate the turning of a season and acknowledging the longest day of the year. That’s what solstice is, the longest day of the year, in my part of the world. Drumming, dancing, sitting around bonfires, sharing stories, planting gardens, walking in labyrinths: the activity is important to honour the passage.
And so, with solstice fast upon us, I wondered about the honouring of passages. I am a woman who has had many passages in life, much like the book Passages by Gail Sheehy, and I celebrate that I am now fullly embracing the next passage for me. The pause, menopause that is, has entered into my life, a little uncomfortably at first blush but we’re getting used to each other. It’s a comfortable place for me but I know that is not the truth for many on this journey. I’m lucky I believe because I have made the choice to live a life of joy, fulfillment and passion for living. I intend to run out of life before I run out of living but that’s also not the truth for so many people.
This blog will be about those moments: the times of change and the changes of time: of entering into a new place, looking around, being curious, knowing you’ve deserved to be here, you’ve worked hard to get to this point, it’s time for YOU now. How cool is that? It’s time for YOU. Say it loudly and often and if you have to say no to somebody well that’s just fine too if it means you’re saying yes to YOU.
Welcome to my blog, welcome to my stories, welcome to my place of sharing, I hope you’ll offer your own wisdoms, share them with us, offer them out and pass them on as I intend to do as well.
Sit, relax, enjoy: let’s get to know each other.
Living la vida fearless, Jan
