I just lost my job after 20 years, what do I do now?
This note came in today for the new column with Little Miss Fortune. Here’s what she has to say about this.
“Wow, first off let me say I am so sorry to hear that you are now out of work. Very first thing to do is to not panic. Hopefully you’ve got some savings to fall back on for a time. If you qualify, go to the closest unemployment office and register for benefits right away. If you live in Canada you have to do this within thirty days or you may be refused. Don’t wait for a record of employment from your workplace: you can sign on without it. Second: take a few days to give yourself a chance to let this sink in and then get right back
at it. Start looking right away BUT if this is really a blessing in disguise as in “I hated my job” take a look at what you love to do, the thing you’d do for free. I can guarantee you there is a way to make that passion a money maker for you. For now, give yourself a chance to breathe, calm down and collect your thoughts. I wish you much success.”
