You know I’ve always known that I’m a person who is a leader. It’s just what it is, no ego, that’s just the truth. I’m that person who, when I was in high school, would sit with the new kid, the odd kid, the geeky kid to offer a kind face and a warm smile. When I became a mama I was the neighbourhood mama: the house where the kids could come knowing they’d be safe to say what they needed to say and not worry about getting into trouble. When I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease I was one of a few people who started up a support group and a local fund raising event. When I got certified as a life coach I offered my services for free to women who had been exposed to abuse and were ready to move beyond that stuck place….I believe in the power of the human spirit and I am not ready to give up: yet….Here’s what I have discovered lately and, I have to admit, I am beginning to feel like giving up: I won’t but I feel like it….
Women, 45 and older, you’re in for a big surprise as you head toward your retirement years…you’ve got less than 25 years to get your financial plan in order, I know that sounds far away but it’s not really…If you don’t start thinking about how you’re going to retire, financially, the government will do it for you. The place might be not up to your standards of course but at least it’ll be a place to stay, oh and the food might not be what you’re used to but, hey, it’s a roof over your head at least. Did you know that, when we women retire, 51% of you will retire into poverty and the number climbs every year we are living…..Yikes…how the hell did that happen? We, who have been care givers for so many years, are now in jeopardy, serious jeopardy, of not living the way we’d like to as we age….Come on ladies, why is that ok? What will it take for you, and we collectively, to realize the time is now to make a shift, to take charge of your finances and start empowering yourSELF…
